Early Bird Registration is now Open  for California Libraries Premiere Professional Development Opportunity

Registration for California Library Association (CLA) Annual Conference in Santa Clara is now open. The CLA Conference offers a statewide opportunity to immerse yourself in librarianship. From educational programs to the busy exhibit halls to author events and more—this is the event for California library people.

Our theme this year, “No Barriers. No Walls. Access for All” celebrates the work libraries do every day, breaking down barriers to access and equity in our communities. Our theme also invites participants to think critically about our services and our systems to maximize positive outcomes for the most vulnerable in our communities.

The 2018 CLA Conference offers over 100 programs, pre-conferences, featured speakers, how-to sessions, and much more. Programs run the gamut – from serving people experiencing homelessness, serving incarcerated individuals, to serving up cutting edge technology – this year’s conference will inspire you to break down barriers in your community.

Jose Antonio Vargas, our Friday Keynote speaker, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and a leading voice for the human rights of immigrants. Saturday Keynote speaker Kamau Ware, best known for his Black Gotham Experience (BGX), is an interdisciplinary artist and historian. The Black Gotham Experience is a visual storytelling project that celebrates the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City through a series of walking tours and graphic novels.

The Beatty Awards Breakfast speaker will be this year’s winner, Dashka Slater, author of The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives.

Dashka Slater has written many books, including Baby Shoes, The Sea Serpent and Me, which was a Junior Library Guild Selection, Escargot, and Dangerously Ever After. She is also an award-winning journalist whose articles have appeared in Newsweek, Salon, The New York Times Magazine, and Mother Jones.

We invite all members of the California Library Community immerse yourself in the programs, speakers, and events at CLA’s Annual Conference at the Santa Clara Convention Center November 9 – 11, 2018.
