BAKERSFIELD—Screening of THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BROWN BUFFALO at Jess Nieto Memorial Conference

BAKERSFIELD—The 2nd Annual Jess Nieto Memorial celebrates the life of Chicano activist and Bakersfield College professor Jess Nieto. This year’s conference also recognizes the 50th anniversary of the MEChA program, and this year’s theme is “Self-Determination for the Liberation of Our People”. The conference will take place from April 23–25 on the Bakersfield College campus. On the second day of the conference enjoy a screening of Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo, a film about Chicano activist Oscar Zeta Acosta, in Forum 101. THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BROWN BUFFALO Learn about the life of radical Chicano lawyer, author and countercultural icon, Oscar Zeta Acosta—the basis for the character Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas—written by his friend, legendary journalist and provocateur Hunter S.
