From March 4-10, 2023 visit the area overlooking the fountain at Los Angeles’ Grand Park to view images from the California Humanities-supported “Hidden Labor; Uncovering L.A.’s Garment Industry.” The current display is part of Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture’s (LACDAC) The Collective Memory Installation.
“Hidden Labor” was an installation organized by the Common Threads Artists Group (CTAG) that occurred back in 1997, and images are now being repurposed in this new exhibit organized by LACDAC, giving the project a kind of second life. Focused on the history and importance of L.A.s garment industry and garment workers, the project was led by CTAG artists Roxane Auer, Eva Cockcroft, Mary-Linn Hughes, Sheila Pinkel, Judy Branfman, Leslie Ernst, Alessandra Moctezuma, Leda Ramos.
Running from February 25 – March 8, 2023, The Collective Memory installation in Grand Park features artworks by one hundred Los Angeles artists across a wide array of artistic mediums to share diverse community experiences and perspectives, highlight underrepresented histories, and celebrate the dynamic culture of the LA region.
