ONLINE BROADCAST—Women Veterans Eurydice Project at Los Angeles Opera
July 25 @ 6:00 am – 8:00 am
ONLINE—Debuted at the Los Angeles Opera in March 2020, Sarah Ruhl’s play Eurydice tells the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice from a contemporary woman’s point of view, with music by Matthew Aucoin. In response, Gail Soffer of the Mindful Veteran Project has led a series of workshops for women veterans to explore the ancient and modern versions of the story and share their own versions of finding themselves in the land of the dead/the underworld/the darkness and making their way back up into the land of the living and light – in spoken word, music, and art.
Join the Mindful Veteran Project at 1:00pm (PDT) on DISH Network (Channel 9415), DirecTV (Channel 348), or Free Speech TV (www.freespeech.org) as these platforms broadcast and livestream a short video of the panel discussion that took place in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center earlier this year.
Then follow the group over to Zoom at 1:30pm (PDT) to continue the storytelling and conversation as the Women Veterans Eurydice Project explores the inspiring stories of women’s journeys “into the underworld and back.”
Saturday, July 25, 2020
Free; no RSVP required.
Both segments of this virtual event are free and require no RSVP.
So as not to disturb the storytelling and conversation, entry to the Zoom group will close
5 minutes after we begin.
This project was made possible with support from California Humanities through a Humanities for All Quick Grant.
