Film Screening: Real Boy
September 6, 2016 @ 12:00 pm

REAL BOY is a beautifully intimate documentary about a teenage singer-songwriter from Pasadena and his family’s reaction to his transition. The supportive network of a chosen family counterpoints the honest confessions of a mother struggling to understand the changes her son is experiencing. Road trips and a new life in Santa Cruz capture the hopeful expanse of youth as Bennett Wallace comes into his own. Thanks to generous support of the Berkeley Film Foundation, REAL BOY is coming back to the East Bay for one night only! I hope you can join us for this hometown screening.
REAL BOY Tuesday, Sept 6th – 7pm The New Parkway Theater 474 24th St., Oakland, CA
This screening is likely to sell out, so please buy your tickets today. For more information, visit http://realboymovie.com/screening/the-new-parkway/ About the film, director Shaleece Haas writes: “For those who have little familiarity with trans issues, REAL BOY offers multiple points of entry. Although Bennett’s transition forms the structural spine of the film, the true transformation belongs to his mom Suzy, who, over four years, moves from shame and resistance to a genuine acceptance and celebration of her son. It’s gratifying to see her journey serve as a hopeful model of the power of love to shift beliefs.” REAL BOY is supported by California Humanities through the California Documentary Project (CDP) grantmaking program.
