LOS ANGELES―Environmental Justice Community Action Lab Workshops

LOS ANGELES―Environmental Justice Community Action Lab is a collaboration between faculty and students in the Chincana/o Studies Department at CSU Northridge. With financial support from California Humanities and RGS Summer Research Grants, we are proud to collaborate with local organizations in order to promote local stories about climate justice and resiliency in Los Angeles County.  This workshop will introduce high school and college age young adults to environmental justice research and methods. It is intended to provide a brief background about the history of environmental justice, social media networks, and oral history methods. It is the hope to provide youth in Los Angeles County with research tools so that they may conduct oral histories about environmental issues in their communities with local leaders, family members, and teachers. Schedule: 9-9:45am: Introduction to “Environmental Justice Community Action Workshop” 9:45-10:00am: Break 10-10:45am: Rethinking Environmentalism and Oral History Workshop 10:45-11:00am: Break 11:00-12:00pm: Oral History Practicum 12:00pm: LunchJuly 16, 2019 – MLK Recreation Center 3916 South Western Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90062   Upcoming workshops: July 30, 2019 – Glassell Park Recreation Center August 9, 2019 – CSU Northridge —- This project is supported by California Humanities through a Humanities for All Project Grant.
