"The understanding of a culture comes from hearing the language, tasting the food, seeing personal interactions, experiencing the traditions, and so much more when it is in context."

LOS ANGELES—“As I Remember It…” Lecture

March 22 @ 2:00 pm4:00 pm

Los Angeles—Join USC Doheny Memorial Library for a reminiscent afternoon with 1st generation-born Ukrainian violinist & composer, Anna Kouchnerov. We will be journeying through sweet memories and stories of Anna’s childhood visits to Kiev, Ukraine. From admiring the bohemian richness of the Andriyivskyy Descent, to walking her grandmother’s goats through the crisp silence of the birch tree forests outside the Sofievskaya Borschagovka. Anna has explored many traditional folk traditions through her musical pursuits over the years, and while studying at UCLA. We will hear an original work of Anna’s, which is based on a Ukrainian folk melody she heard growing up. Following this, we will have a virtual performance and message presented by the accomplished Ukrainian-born singer-composer, Olena Karpenko. During this tragic period, we hope to share in a small and meaningful way how beautiful and special the country of Ukraine was and continues to be.
