LOS ANGELES—California Jubilee: A Conversation with Toni Tipton-Martin
October 11, 2019 @ 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
$30
LOS ANGELES—Join The Autry Museum of the American West for a symposium exploring the contributions which immigrants and people of color have made, and continue to make, to the development of California cuisine. SoCal Foodways belives that these stories are too often missing or marginalized from mainstream narratives about the state’s food history. As a result, white food producers disproportionately benefit financially — while accumulating cultural capital — from stories told about the state’s foodways. By understanding the ways people of color and immigrants actively participated in the evolution of the state’s foodways, we can better understand the ways in which these populations have impacted California culture as a whole. Friday, October 11, 2019, 6:30 pm – 9:00pm @ The Autry Museum of the American West Autry Museum of the American West 4700 Western Heritage Way Los Angeles, CA 90027 RSVP Recommended.
