In the Philippines, Lualhati Bautista’s novel used to be required reading in schools about Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship. Now in the aftermath of the May 2022 elections, it is important to learn from our country’s past in order to help with its future. After the film screening, there will be a panel of Filipino artists and experts led by UCLA’s Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Studies Jasmine Nadua Trice. The panelist will explore the craft of the film, Philippine history, and the politics of the present.

Parking, directions, and additional information is available in the registration link, or contact cinemasalaorg@gmail.com.

This exhibit is supported by a Humanities for All Quick Grant.
