LOS ANGELES–As the country’s last standing roller rinks are threatened with closure, United Skates (supported by California Humanities) spotlights a community of thousands who fight in a racially charged environment to save the underground African American subculture of roller skating. This “kaleidoscopically vibrant” (Variety) documentary examines an underappreciated world that has been formative to black music and culture. (2018, dir. Dyana Winkler and Tina Brown, 90 min.) A Q&A with director Dyana Winkler follows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=Z2qosOuYfAY Wednesday, February 13th 7:30 pm Ticketing: Free tickets are required and available at the Box Office one hour before the program.
