October 1 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
LOS ANGELES―Take part in the third of three public conversations/screenings & story-gathering sessions for The Chicharrón Chronicles, a cross-cultural story-gathering project in Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown exploring the colonial legacy of Spain and commonalities among people of Filipinx and Latinx descent.
The Chicharrón Chronicles 03: ALIMENTAR // NOURISH // MAG-ALAGA celebrates Filipino American History Month with conversation, community, and chicharrón at Historic Filipinotown restaurant Porridge & Puffs.
Los Angeles Times Features Writer Gustavo Arellano, author of Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, moderates a conversation about food, place, and identity between local chefs/restaurant owners, including Minh Phan of Porridge & Puffs, Christine Araquel-Concordia of The Park’s Finest, Johneric Concordia of Thunderbolt, among others. Attendees will have the chance to record their stories for the Historic Filipinotown Archive and for possible inclusion in The Chicharrón Chronicles Walking Tour, forthcoming later this year.
