LOS ANGELES– Join JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble for The Community Salon: HOME – a communal conversation and exchange of ideas exploring the concept of home. The day’s activities include: hosted conversation groups; “Snacks & Chat,” a break and social time for participants to further connect; and a mini-performance by JazzAntiqua and collaborators concluding with a Q&A and sharing of final thoughts on the day. Embracing jazz as a language birthed from a need for a distinct means of communication to reflect and express the distinct experience of African Americans is at the philosophical heart of JazzAntiqua. The Community Salon welcomes all for a deepening of experiences beyond the jazz stage performance. Conversation – sharing stories, exchanging ideas, reflecting on experiences, bearing witness – is always a vital element, opening doors to understanding, expanded viewpoints and imagining new possibilities. Participants experience the communal triumph, freedom, self-determination, democracy and joy embedded within the jazz legacy. Past conversation themes have explored silence and breath. This project is made possible with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. www.calhum.org. Additional support is provided by Dance@theHolden and The Jazz Dance Institute™. Saturday, October 13, 2018, 10:00 am – 1:30 pm Nate Holden Performing Arts Center 4718 W.
