LOS ANGELES– This exhibit is based on a community-based, photovoice research project featuring the lived experiences of grandparents and relative caregivers through photographs of their everyday life. A total of 22 families connected to the organization GAP (Grandparents as Parents) are featured in this art exhibit. Our goal is to enhance public understanding and heighten consciousness of the experiences of grandparents and relative caregivers. We do this by representing the meaning of their role as caretakers and the challenges they face as they find themselves unexpectedly caring for children. Artshare is open to the public.  Admission is free.  Metering street parking is available.  After 5:00pm the parking structure located across the street is available at no charge. Exhibition on view from Wednesday Nov 29, 2017 to Sunday, December 3, 2017 Gallery Hours: Wednesday – Sunday 1:00 – 6:00 pm Closing Reception on Saturday December 2nd, 6pm – 10pm For more information, you can contact:  Scott Appelrouth, Professor, Department of Sociology, California State University Northridge,  818.677.3292, saa@csun.edu This event is part of a project supported by California Humanities through an Humanities for All Quick Grant entitled “Understanding The Lived Experiences Of Grandparents As Parents And The Children In Their Care Through Their Visual Stories And Testimonies.” To find out how to apply for funding through the Humanities for All Quick Grant, please visit our webpage here.
