NEVADA CITY– Soldiers Unknown: A Graphic Novel by Chag Lowry

NEVADA CITY– SOLDIERS UNKNOWN: A GRAPHIC NOVEL BY CHAG LOWRY Northern California author and filmmaker, Chag Lowry, will join us for a conversation about his latest project, a graphic novel, Soldiers Unknown. The book is based on the real-life experiences of Native California soldiers who served in the 91st Infantry Division during World War I. Chag is collaborating on the book with the graphic artist, Rahsan Ekedal. Heydey Press in Berkeley will publish Soldiers Unknown the spring of 2019. Chag will tell us about his process for creating the panels, the full script in comic terms, and how he works with the artist, Rahsan Ekedal who is based in Germany. Chag will also share photographs and stories about the actual Yuok soldiers who were the inspiration for the characters in his novel. Chag Lowry is of Yurok, Maidu, and Achumawi Native American ancestry. He has written the Original Patriots: Northern California Indian Veterans of World War Two, and has produced and directed several PBS programs that feature Native American veterans and elders. Rahsan Ekedal is an artist best known for his work on the hit comic book series The Tithe and Think Tank, and the Harvey Award nominated graphic novel Echoes. He has illustrated a variety of titles for Image Comics and Top Cow Productions, Dark Horse Comics, DC Vertigo Comics, and Boom! Entertainment. He also works occasionally as a storyboard and concept artist for film and television. Rahsan studied illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and now resides in Berlin with his wife, Shannon Lilly, and their son, Matteo.
