SAN FRANCISCO– A panel discussion between University of San Francisco Law School Professor Bill Ong Hing, Dean Ito Taylor, Executive Director, Asian Pacific Island Legal Outreach, and Korematsu legal team members Karen Kai and Robert Rusky on the legal, social and historical precedents of Executive Order 9066 (which authorized the mass imprisonment of people of Japanese ancestry) and its link to current immigration issues. Exhibit on View: August 21- Nov 15, 2017 Thacher Gallery | University of San Francisco Near the corner of Temescal Terrace and Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA Something from Nothing features over 100 objects created by incarcerated Japanese Americans during World War II. Included are handmade objects, historical artifacts, and photographs from the collection of the National Japanese American Historical Society (NJAHS) as well as two contemporary art installations by Barbara Horiuchi and Marlene Iyemura. Co-presented with the National Japanese American Historical Society. This project was made possible with support from California Humanities,a nonprofit partner of the NEH.
