OAKLAND—Premiere of DISPLACED at StudioToBe
January 26, 2020 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

OAKLAND—Youth Beat presents DISPLACED, a short documentary examining the rampant gentrification taking place in Oakland, and the displacement crisis that is reshaping the city. The film features powerful youth perspectives on gentrification, and follows the story of Youth Beat’s own Danielle Thompson. Like thousands of other black families, Danielle and her family were displaced from Oakland when they were evicted from their rent-controlled apartment. Now as a young adult living on the outskirts of the Bay Area, Danielle is forced to reconcile her love for Oakland despite being abruptly removed from the place she still calls home. Sun, January 26, 2020 5:00 PM – 7:00 p.m. Free. Register here. Studiotobe 906 Washington Street Oakland, CA 94607 The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel featuring the youth filmmakers. The panel will open into a community forum where audience members will exchange dialogue, discuss solutions, and implement strategies to resolve Oakland’s gentrification crisis. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. This program is supported by California Humanities through a CDP NextGen Grant.
