ONLINE INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT—One Square Mile, 10,000 Voices

October 1, 2020October 31, 2020

ONLINE INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT—The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival: REORIENT Emerging Media showcase is an online experience layering voices from Manzanar’s past and present over the physical landscape—explore memories and sounds across the site and record your own stories to add to the project. More than 10,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated at Manzanar, in California’s Owens Valley, during World War II. One Square Mile, 10,000 Voices is an interactive documentary experience layering voices from Manzanar’s past and present over the physical landscape. Participants explore memories, sounds, and reflections geolocated across the site. They are also invited to record their own stories to add to the project, creating a living document of resistance, resilience, and community. This online version of the project is premiering as part of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival’s REORIENT showcase for emerging media.
