"The understanding of a culture comes from hearing the language, tasting the food, seeing personal interactions, experiencing the traditions, and so much more when it is in context."

Thursday, January 14  10:00-11:00 a.m. PST

In English and French | en anglais et en français In the midst of the COVID-19 public health crisis and the Black Lives Matter Movement, social issues are exacerbated. Already engaged in the transformation of their cities, a group of artists, urban planners, entrepreneurs, elected officials and researchers embarked on a journey to examine the process of city-making in France and California. The Oakland/Saint-Denis project was born under a common conviction : our cities must be built collectively and with the arts and humanities at the center. To enlarge the conversation California Humanities and Villa San Francisco invite you to City/Cité : Two Cities, Two Mayors, One Goal. Join Oakland, California Mayor Libby Schaaf and Mayor Mathieu Hanotin from Saint-Denis, France as they discuss what makes their cities special and their shared goal of engaging artists and communities to build creative and inclusive cities. 10.00 – 10.05am Welcome and Introduction 10.05 – 11.00am Moderated panel 11.00 – 11.30am Q&A Moderator: Joaquin Alvarado, StudiotoBe With questions, write to Kirsten Vega: kvega@calhum.org. 10.00 – 10.05 Introduction 10.05 – 11.00 Discussion 11.00 – 11.30 Q&A Modérateur: Joaquin Alvarado, StudiotoBe Posez vos questions à Kirsten Vega: kvega@calhum.org.
