"The understanding of a culture comes from hearing the language, tasting the food, seeing personal interactions, experiencing the traditions, and so much more when it is in context."

ONLINE EVENT–Facing Racism within Our Muslim & Jewish Communities

June 16, 2021 @ 7:00 pm9:00 pm

Free

Wednesday June 16, 2021 7:00-9:00pm PST

ONLINE PRESENTATION–Tune in to a public dialogue about the function of anti-Black racism in faith communities, and how storytelling can be utilized as a tool to build more inclusive faith communities. NewGround has invited Margari Hill (Executive Director, Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative) and Chava Shervington (Board Member, Jewish Multiracial Network) to share their personal stories about racism in these communities, and in turn discuss actionable tools for navigating and combatting hatred. Participants will then break into groups to reflect on what they heard. They will walk away from the conversation with actionable commitments to utilize the art of storytelling in their own lives to combat racism, division, and hatred. Contact: Ben Ginsburg, Communications & Operations Coordinator, NewGround, (818) 856-0815, ben@muslimjewishnewground.org This project is supported by a Humanities for All Quick Grant.
