ONLINE— Join Studio City Branch Library for two workshops of the Restless Books Immigrant Writing Workshop in November. Taught by Restless Books Publisher Ilan Stavans, these workshops aim to help immigrant communities develop their voices, self-confidence, and self-esteem.

The workshops allow participants in a small group setting to both practice literacy and speaking skills and deepen their connection with their local community. Although the workshops are conducted in English, participants are encouraged to play with language in their writing and can write nonfiction, fiction, or poetry.

Participants may pick up a free copy of And We Came Outside and Saw the Stars Again: Writers from Around the World on the Covid-19 Pandemic, and will be asked to read selections for the class. Participants will also receive a copy of an anthology we create from the writings produced in the workshop.

Registration is required. Email Emily at eaaronson@lapl.org.
About: Each workshop has three sessions. Please only register for one workshop (October or November). Workshops are limited to 20 students and we ask that people commit to attending all sessions. Participants are also welcome to register as “teams” of two people working on the same piece; we hope you will consider this if you need additional help with the technology or language.

This program is supported by California Humanities through a Library Innovation Lab Grant.
