SACRAMENTO– California Fresh Film Series: THE RETURN at Crocker Art Museum

March 1, 2018 @ 10:30 am12:30 pm

$12

SACRAMENTO– The Crocker Art Museum is proud to present four fresh documentaries that share some of the diverse stories and compelling individuals who make up our state. Each screening will be introduced by John Lightfoot of California Humanities, the grant-making nonprofit that helped fund these films through its California Documentary Project. A Q&A with the filmmakers or subjects will follow some screenings.  Through Proposition 36, California amended its “Three Strikes” law — one of the harshest criminal sentencing policies in the country. This marked the first time in U.S. history that citizens voted to shorten sentences of those currently incarcerated. Within days, the reintegration of thousands of “lifers” was underway. The Return examines this unprecedented reform through the eyes of those on the front lines — prisoners suddenly freed, families turned upside down, re-entry providers trying to navigate the transitions, and attorneys and judges wrestling with an untested law.  Thursday, January 4: Real Boy Thursday, February 1: Romeo is Bleeding Thursday, March 1: The Return Thursday, April 5: Dorthea Lange: Grab a Hunk of Lightning
