SACRAMENTO–On November 25th, the Sacramento Movimiento Chicano and Mexican American Education Project Oral History Initiative invites you to celebrate the completion of the interviews and the donation of the testimonios to a local archives collection. Reunite once again and be witness to the investment made in creating this rich and varied oral history project!
The symposium will honor the 99 voices of Sacramento Chicana/o activists that were interviewed and videotaped from 2014-2016 for the Oral History Initiative. The event begins with a traditional indigenous blessing recognizing the living activists and their guests. The symposium will highlight four topics: developing, implementing and sustaining effective partnerships between academics and communities to give genuine voices to the historical past; the interview process; making of the documentary; and hearing the audiotaped recordings of selected interviewees. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with the activists during the lunch hour.
