SACRAMENTO–Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture is pleased to present Rajkamal Kahlon: And Still I Rise in collaboration with the University Galleries, Sacramento State. Rajkamal Kahlon is a South Asian American artist, originally from Northern California and now based in Berlin, Germany. Working with archival materials sourced from books, military reports, and photographs, her interdisciplinary practice transforms colonial narratives through painting. Her work “talks back” to these archival documents and “points us towards spaces of potentiality and freedom.” Part of a twenty-year survey of the artist’s work on view at the University Library Gallery at Sacramento State, the Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture exhibition will be presented at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. The exhibition features prints from Kahlon’s new series Enter My Burning House, memorializing victims from the 2012 mass shooting at the Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
