SAN FRANCISCO–Called to Rise Symposium

SAN FRANCISCO–Called to Rise: Chinese Americans’ Involvement in World War II will be a two-day symposium on November 2nd and 3rd hosted by the Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA). The symposium will explore Chinese Americans’ extensive involvement in the war effort during World War II. Military historians and veterans will share topics of service before 1941, during WWII, community activism at home, and the legacies of service. CHSA will display a travelling exhibit, screen WWII films and rededicate the War Memorial at Chinatown’s St. Mary’s Square. The event will offer different learning opportunities for audiences to engage with World War II history. Tickets $60-$120. November 2, 2019 9am-3:30pm @ Cameron House The day will feature presentations on: Prewar & Histories of Combatant Service Support Operations: Surviving Veterans’ Experience The Homefront Legacies of Service Light snacks and boxed lunch will be included. November 3, 2019 10:30am Memorial Rededication @ St. Mary’s Square 12:30pm Lunch @ Chinatown 2:30pm Called to Rise Exhibition @ CHSA Chinese American Citizens Alliance and American Legion Cathay Post 384 join CHSA in the rededication of the WWI and WWII memorial. Lunch will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral with a program. The day ends at CHSA for a viewing of the exhibit Called to Rise: Chinese Americans in World War II.
