ONLINE POETRY READING–Join West Oakland 2 West Africa for a free virtual public event, “Neighborhood Voices.” The event will feature poetry readings with work from our new anthology Sisters Across Oceans, featuring poetic exchanges between Oakland, Hawaii and Ghana. Following the readings, there will be a community forum component, allowing our poets and audience to engage in meaningful dialogue around the Black experience. Listen to “Neighborhood Voices,” a reading from our Oakland, Hawaiian and Ghanaian poets created during an epistolary exchange facilitated by West Oakland to West Africa, an international poetry exchange collective. Featuring Kathryn Takara, Shawna Sherman, Allison Francis, Apiorkor, Crystal Tettey and more. Readings will be followed by meaningful open dialogue around themes of humanity, identity, intersectionality, and the Black and Pan-African experience.
