STOCKTON– Virtual Reality Exhibit Opening: Little Manila Recreated
June 15, 2018 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Free
STOCKTON–Join us for a special presentation unveiling Little Manila Recreated, a virtual reality museum exhibit that reconstructs the now-demolished mid-twentieth century neighborhood of Little Manila in downtown Stockton. After the presentation, come play a demo of the game, which will be on display at the Filipino American National Historical Society in downtown Stockton. The 2018 Digital Delta Summer fellows at the University of the Pacific will discuss the creation and purpose of their work and their collaborations with the local community to make this project possible. “Little Manila Recreated” is a University of Pacific project done in collaboration with the Filipino-American National Historical Society (FANHS) and the Little Manila Foundation. A team of students with faculty and staff from history, computer science, and the Library is creating a virtual reality museum exhibit that digitally reconstructs the now-demolished Little Manila neighborhood in Stockton and interprets its significance as a center of regional and national Filipino-American culture. The project uses historical research and interviews and forges ties between past and present immigrants, while historicizing the effects of immigration policies and city planning decisions on community cohesion. Event Location: Friday, June 15, 2018, 6:00 pm @ William Knox Holt Memorial Library, Community Room (Corner of Dave Brubeck Way and Atchley Way) University of the Pacific 3601 Pacific Ave Stockton, Ca 95211 Free and Open to the Public.
