Be part of our next statewide read! Cal Humanities wants you to participate in our next California Reads program, slated for fall 2014, which will be anchored by author, veteran, and activist Karl Marlantes’ best-selling work of narrative non-fiction, What It Is Like to Go to War. In alignment with our new thematic initiative, War Comes Home, the read aims to raise awareness of the veteran experience and increase public understanding and empathy for those who have served, as well as to promote a public conversation on how best we can support the process of reincorporating our veterans into the fabric of civilian life.
Grant guidelines and program planning resources for library-based applicants are available at http://www.calhum.org/grants/california-reads-grant. The application deadline is November 1, 2013. Awards will be announced in December.
Please join Mary Menzel of the California Center for the Book and Felicia Kelley of Cal Humanities for a one-hour overview of the program on Friday, August 16, from 11 am to 12 pm. The session will provide detailed information about the grant application process. See below for registration information.
