SUMMARY:THOUSAND OAKS—Resistance & Persistence Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Above: Chumash Indian Museum\, courtesy of the museum on Instagram. \nTHOUSAND OAKS—The Resistance and Persistence program recognizes the 200th anniversary of the 1824 Chumash Revolt against several of the Spanish missions established in Chumash lands. This little-known chapter of history highlights the cultural resistance of indigenous peoples to the harsh environment of colonialism and establishes context for the ongoing cultural revitalization efforts of Chumash people today. Chumash Elder Alan Salazar will be discussing the San Fernando Mission’s connection to the 1824 Revolt. \nWhere: Oakbrook Chumash Indian Museum\, 3290 Lang Ranch Parkway\, Thousand Oaks\, 91360\nWhen: 5 pm\, October 12 \nFor details\, see: Chumashmuseum.org \nFor questions\, please contact: Dayle Bingham\, visit@chumashmuseum.org
