California Humanities Name

Our full legal name, “California Humanities (not “Cal Humanities”), was part of a re-branding effort to be more inclusive and is the preferred usage in both written and spoken form.

If our name must be abbreviated for space reasons, we prefer “CA Humanities.”

“It is a magnificent honor for me to serve as the President & CEO of California Humanities, especially because I believe deeply in the power of the humanities. I am grateful for the board’s confidence in me to lead this important statewide organization, particularly at this moment in time when California and the nation needs the humanities more than ever to cultivate empathy and bridge divides. I am energized to advance California Humanities’ commitment to equity and social justice.”

“California Humanities is grateful to the NEA for supporting our efforts to bring humanities-focused documentary screenings and discussions to cultural and community spaces statewide. This will help us to expand our reach while bringing little-seen California stories to new audiences.”

“We are thrilled to see both new and returning CDP NextGen grantees supporting youth media programming on a diverse range of subjects. Youth participants will not only share meaningful community stories from their California regions, but will also learn important skills in media literacy, filmmaking, podcasting, interviewing, and more.”
