Staging Section 14: Restorative Practices Talk & Community Archive Scanning Session
April 19, 2026 | 12:30-1:30 PM Talk | 1:30-2:00 PM Scanning
The Church of St. Paul in the Desert 125 W El Alameda, Palm Springs, CA 92262
Hosted in collaboration with The Church of St. Paul in the Desert, this community session explores the topic of restorative practices with Dr. Joy Zavarich, advisory committee member, retired minister, adjunct faculty, and Associate Director of the Center for Peace and Justice Studies at Villanova University. Dr. Joy will discuss restorative principles and practices, focusing on how it seeks to repair harm, rebuild relationships, and foster healing in communities after a collective conflict or trauma. This event also seeks to engage local Section 14 survivors in a collaborative process of archiving and preserving the rich history of their community.
The session will introduce the draft community archive that Green Room Theatre Company (GRTCCV) is developing as well as the concept of community scanning—a process of gathering and digitizing personal and collective stories, photographs, and articles that represent the diverse history of Section 14. Survivors will be invited to contribute to the digital archive that will serve as a tool for healing and for educating the community. This event offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and to help shape the future of a shared community memory.
