Oakland, CA —

Join Cut Fruit Collective in showcasing The Art of Belonging: Asian American Stories of Diaspora and Community Care. Opening on May 10 and running every weekend until May 25, The Art of Belonging will be showing at ARTogether (1200 Harrison St. Oakland, CA) from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. On May 10, public opening will begin at 2:00 PM, VIP hour will begin at 1:00 PM.

The Art of Belonging: Asian American Stories of Diaspora and Community Care is an intergenerational oral history and multimedia exhibition that traces the stories of immigrant elders from 11 Asian cultures. With interviews conducted by Asian Health Services (AHS) and translation support from the Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project (OCOHP), the works presented in the exhibition are brought to life by visual artists, adding a personal layer to the rich tapestry of narratives.

The exhibition highlights the intersection of cultural identity, immigration, public health, and community care and how it affects people’s sense of belonging. Featuring artists include: Asia Kang, Asia Saechao, Bilejargal Luvsankhuu, Chloe Ng, Duachaka Her, Kimberly Mar, Learkana Chong, Lia Tin, Ruby Castro, Thao Le Thanh, and Valerie Win Liu.

During the opening, we will have short remarks from the project leads, light refreshments and a raffle!  Each ticket will be $5 and we will have a variety of prizes from Asian American writers and creators, ranging from books to teas.

This show will be open from May 10-May 25, Friday-Sunday 1-5PM.
