Grantee Feature– La Ultima Parada on Oct 27 & 28

La Última Parada showcases Mexican culture through the traditions of Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday that brings together hosts of family and friends to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have died, in order to help support their spiritual journey. La Última Parada received an Humanities for All Quick Grant from California Humanities.

The event incorporates La Viejada (community masked-dance with over 200 participants), live musical presentations, ethnic food and drink, Day of the Dead visual art displays (Altars, CampoSanto, Community Art, Hands-On art activities), and Mercado (marketplace).

La Última Parada will take place on October 27 & 28, 2018 at the School of Arts & Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in East San Jose.

We invite community members to participate with us in La Viejada (masked-dance) at the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Sunday, October 28. If you would like to participate, please join one of the workshops listed below to learn the music and dances and create a mask honoring a loved one. Workshops will commence in August and run through October, and will be held at community centers and dance studios in San Jose and Hayward.

The workshops are free and open to the public.  No dance experience is required. Capacity is limited in some venues and an RSVP to info@laultimaparada is required for workshop details. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are 90 minutes in duration.
