We’re verklempt. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) today announced its latest round of grant awards, with $14.8 million going to 253 projects in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Of those, 28 awards were made in California, for a total of $1.6 million.
California Humanities also will receive support from the NEH to support the public humanities statewide through our grants and programs. California, along with 55 other state and territorial humanities councils, stewards funds from the NEH made through the Office of Federal/State Partnership. This year, the councils were awarded a total of $47.5 million, an increase from last year.
We couldn’t be more grateful to the NEH and to congressional lawmakers for their support of the humanities and the work that we and our hundreds of grantees do to connect millions of people across the state to what it means to be human. We’re glad to see that our country continues to express the shared values of cultural preservation and public engagement with the humanities.
Check out the list of the 28 grants awarded in California from the NEH this year, and please join us in thanking the NEH for their support over social media: @NEHgov.
