Our Continued Commitment to Equity and Justice

California Humanities believes that equity should be at the heart of the humanities.

During this time of thoughtful reflection and continued commitment to equity and justice, we’re proud to share our equity values statement grounded in our belief that equity is at the heart of the humanities. By asserting this statement, we acknowledge the hard but critical work needed to make deep and lasting change for the benefit of all.

For our organization, this work has included an ongoing consideration of the myriad ways that our personal histories and the communities we call home have been impacted by the lasting effects of structural inequity and bias. In our commitment to lift-up the histories, voices, and experiences of the people across our state, we turn to our equity values because we believe that the public humanities are vital to a thriving public and intellectual life for all people.

We recognize that we will never be finished striving for this goal, but rather, that this work will continue to evolve over time as we create a more thoughtful, open, and just state.
