The Pulitzer Prize awards have been announced for 2019, and plenty of Californians and California-based organizations are among the recipients.
Among them are Matt Hamilton, Harriet Ryan, and Paul Pringle of the Los Angeles Times for Investigative Reporting, on the USC sexual abuse scandal; UC Santa Barbara professor Jeffrey C. Stewart in Biography for his book The New Negro: The Life of Alain Locke about the father of the Harlem Renaissance; Ellen Reid in Music for her new operatic work p r i s m, which confronts subjects including emotional and sexual abuse.
Among the finalists are Tommy Orange of Oakland in Fiction, for his debut novel There, There set in a California powwow, and the staff of the Chico Press-Enterprise, in collaboration wit the Bay Area News Group for their Breaking News Reporting of the California wildfires this past fall.
