Jessica Jarmillo and Kamilah Arteaga

Welcome, Jessica Jarmillo and Kamilah Arteaga!

At California Humanities, connection is at the heart of everything we do — and that includes the people who help make our work possible. This fall, we’re thrilled to welcome two new members to our team: Jessica Jaramillo and Kamilah Arteaga, who each bring a deep commitment to community, creativity, and the power of human connection.

For Jessica Jaramillo, joining as our new Library Innovation Lab Project Manager, is both a continuation and celebration of her life’s work in libraries. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jessica began her library career in 2007 at the County of Los Angeles Public Library and has since served readers of all ages — from curious toddlers at storytime to lifelong learners. She believes deeply in the role libraries play as trusted, welcoming spaces for discovery and belonging.

Kamilah Arteaga, our new Operations Coordinator, joins us from the Peninsula, bringing a passion for helping organizations work with clarity and purpose. A graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, Kamilah’s experience spans the arts, creative writing, higher education, and small business sectors. Her goal is to help California Humanities run smoothly behind the scenes, so that our programs and grantees can shine.

“I’m excited to be part of an organization that is so dedicated to supporting communities across the entirety of California, from indigenous folks to new immigrants,” said Kamilah.

Both Jessica and Kamilah share a deep belief in the humanities as a bridge — connecting people through stories, culture, and conversation. We’re delighted to have them on board as we continue to cultivate cultures, community, and connections across the Golden State.
