Special Date: Tuesday, October 7, 2025
This October, the Collective Joy Project is taking a new step—literally—by bringing our host, mariana moscoso, out into the field. For the first time, we’ll be on-site as mariana meets Chanowk Yisrael at Yisrael Family Farm, a half-acre urban oasis in Sacramento that’s redefining what community, stewardship, and joy look like in practice.
A dynamic land steward and visionary leader, Chanowk has transformed a backyard plot into a thriving community resource that addresses food apartheid, empowers neighborhoods, and connects people to the answers in the soil. Through regenerative farming, policy advocacy, and education, he has inspired thousands to see food sovereignty not only as a right but as a pathway to joy, resilience, and liberation.
Chanowk’s leadership has helped change local laws, expand urban agriculture across counties, and demonstrate what it means to “transform the hood for good.” His work reminds us that rematriation and land back are not only about ownership but about re-rooting in care, ritual, and responsibility.
“The answers are in the soil if we only learn to listen.” — Chanowk Yisrael
Join us for this in-person farm conversation as we explore how joy, land, and food sovereignty intersect to cultivate healing and possibility.
Note the Date: This month’s program will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, instead of our usual second-Tuesday cadence.
