Deadlines? What Deadlines? Submit a Quick Grant Any Time Starting May 1

As California Humanities strives to center equity in our work, we are pleased to announce some exciting changes coming to the Humanities for All Quick Grant program! Guided by our equity values, Quick Grants will now be accepted on a rolling basis starting on May 1, 2024, available to organizations with total yearly operating budgets of $500,000 or less. These changes will make Quick Grants more accessible and available to smaller organizations that are making big impacts in the communities they serve.

FAQs

Will Quick Grants continue to support public humanities programming?

Yes. Quick Grants are still available for projects supporting community-focused public humanities learning experiences. Programming should draw on the humanities in content or approach and support interactive learning experiences featuring synchronous (live or virtual) program moderation or facilitation. Successful past programs have included walking tours, interpretive exhibitions, humanities-focused workshops and performances, scholar talks, and panel discussions.

Can organizations outside of California apply for a Quick Grant?

No. Applicant organizations and fiscal sponsors must still be located in California and serve California-based audiences.

My organization’s annual operating budget is $100,000 per year, are we eligible for a Quick Grant?

Yes. Quick Grants will now be available to organizations with an annual operating budget of $500,000 a year or less. For organizations with operating budgets above $500,000, our Humanities For All Project Grants are still available twice a year.

My organization does not have federal nonprofit status; can we still apply?

Yes. As before, eligible fiscal sponsors (must be based in California, have federal nonprofit status, and in good standing with California Humanities if previously awarded), are eligible to serve as fiscal sponsors for organizations that do not have federal nonprofit status.

How much grant funding is available with a Quick Grant?

Quick Grants will continue to provide between $1,000-$5,000 in grant funding to support the implementation of public humanities programming.

When should I submit my application?

Starting May 1, 2024, applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, subject to availability of funding. Applications must be submitted at least 10-12 weeks before the start of the proposed program. Programming must occur within the 12-month grant period and cannot exceed this time limit.

What is the review timeline?

Proposals will be reviewed within 8-10 weeks, and you will receive a notification soon after that time.
