We’re not retreating. We’re reimagining.
In response to the termination of federal state partnership grants to all states and jurisdictional humanities, the Federation of State Humanities Councils, with support from the Mellon Foundation, are providing financial support to each state and jurisdiction in the amount of $200,000, plus a $50,000 match, to help preserve the network of state humanities. California Humanities is using the funds to reimagine its path forward. “We are grateful for the funds dedicated to help us reimagine California Humanities,” says Rick Noguchi, President and CEO. “The board is confident and energized in recognizing that this moment is about more than recovery — it’s about deepening our investment in Culture and Civil Society. It’s about building belonging for every person, every voice, every story.”
Now, we’re calling on you to help us raise $500,000 more to move from crisis response to long‑term investment. What we call lifework. We can cultivate a culture of belonging that lasts for generations by doing this together.
Here’s how you can help:
-
Make a gift — of any size — to help sustain California’s cultural future
-
Share this story with someone who believes in the public good of the humanities
-
Invest in the next 50 years of connection, creativity, and belonging
As Rick reminds us, “if California isn’t leading the way in culture, story, and civil society — who will?”
Thank you for standing with us.
